Body-worn electronic textile technologies have attracted much attention due to their wide applications. One of the most important part of this concept is the wearable devices, which form a significant area of the electronic textile research. One of the most important requirements in the wearable devices is the capacity of the battery. Recent researches show that the energy harvesting can be realized with the metamaterial (MTM)-based applications and the produced energy can be used in wearable electronic devices. Metamaterial structures which are designed with electronic textile-based materials provide advantages such as easier usage, light weight and ability to be hidden. The proposed design in this study presents a wearable MTM-based microwave energy harvesting application. The absorption characteristic and retrieval study with proposed structure is investigated in the 3–6 GHz operation frequency range. In addition, the power characteristics and surface current distribution are obtained by integrating the resistor in this structure. It provides the requirements for microwave energy harvesting with 0.5 W power stimulated and 0.27 W loss in lumped elements results, and thus can be used in wearable e-textile application that can be integrated into the clothes.
