Sociology’s sosyo-political foundations and some paradigms and names that played an important role in the history of science in this process were influential in the acquisition of a scientific identity in Turkey. The aim of this study is to discuss the main lines of the foundation years of sociology in Turkey in the period covering the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the foundation years of the Turkish Republic, within the framework of positivism, the dominant and prominent science paradigm in these years. In addition, this study serves as a reminder on rethinking the sociological background of sociology in Turkey. In general, the socio-political foundations of sociology in Turkey were evaluated. In particular, the effect of positivist paradigm in the instituonalization process as a science has been evaluated. In this foundation years, the political sections and world of the thought Ottoman Empire embraced sociology with the belief that it would improve the state and society.Sociology was seen as a needed science.An important task as a social discipline was attributed to the Western science sociology, which the Ottoman Empirement during its contacts with the West and then started to instituonalize rapidly. In terms of sociology’s entry into Turkey and within the framework of the characteristics of this period, pioneering and founding names are important in terms of both gaining institutional identity and giving direction to Turkish sociology intellectually, as well as shaping sociological thought. Positivism is the scientific paradigm that comes to the fore in the establishment and institutionalization of sociology. In this study, generally the socio-political sources of the foundation of sociology, which has with a history of more than a century in Turkey, and positivism in this period in terms of sociology in Turkey, were re-evaluated. Türkiye’de sosyolojinin bilim kimliği kazanmasında, sosyo-politik temelleri ve bu süreçte bilim tarihinde önemli rol oynayan bazı paradigmalar ve isimler etkili olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı’nın son dönemi ile Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kuruluş yıllarında, Türkiye’de sosyolojinin kuruluş yıllarındaki ana hatlarını, bu yıllarda hakim olan ve öne çıkan bilim paradigmasıpozitivizm çerçevesinde tartışmaktır. Ayrıca bu çalışma, Türkiye’de sosyolojiye dair sosyolojik birikimi yeniden düşünmek üzerine bir hatırlatma amacını gütmektedir. Genel anlamda Türkiye’de sosyolojinin sosyo-politik temelleri değerlendirilmiştir. Özel olarak ise Türkiye’de sosyolojinin kuruluş yıllarında ve bilim olarak kurumsallaşma sürecinde pozitivist paradigmanın etkisi değerlendirilmiştir. Kuruluş yıllarında sosyolojiye, Osmanlı’nın politik kesimleri ve düşünce dünyası devleti ve toplumu iyileştireceği inancıyla sarılmıştır. Sosyoloji ihtiyaç duyulan bir bilim olarak görülmüştür. Osmanlı Devleti’nin Batı’yla temasları sürecinde tanıştığı ve ardından hızla kurumsallaşmaya başlayan Batılı bilim sosyolojiye, sosyal bilim disiplini olarak önemli bir görev atfedilmiştir. Öncü ve kurucu isimler; sosyolojinin Türkiye’ye girişi ve bu dönemin özellikleri çerçevesinde hem kurumsal kimlik kazanması hem de düşünsel olarak Türk sosyolojisine yön vermesi, ayrıca sosyolojik düşüncenin şekillenmesi bakımından önem arz etmektedir. Pozitivizm, Türkiye’de sosyolojinin kuruluşu ve kurumsallaşması aşamasında etkili olan bilim paradigmasıdır. Bu çalışmada; Türkiye’de yüzyılı aşan tarihi bir birikimi olan sosyolojinin kuruluşunun temelindeki sosyo-politik kaynakları ile bu dönemde pozitivizmin Türkiye’de sosyoloji açısından yeniden değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır.
