Özet

The protective characteristics of the clothing worn by health employees have gained great importance in recent years due to the global pandemic COVID-19. Many applications, from disposable products to durable finishing processes, are becoming widespread to protect health employees from biological risk factors. In this regard, studies on the development of antimicrobial textiles for health employees, and the assessment of their antimicrobial activities is of vital interest. The addition of antimicrobial activity to work clothing not only protects health employees from serious illness or death, but also prevents the transmission of infection to other colleagues and patients. These advantages make antimicrobial clothing attractive to researchers and research/product development departments of companies. For many years, many antimicrobial textile products have been developed for healthcare settings, and studies are still ongoing. This chapter offers a critical review on antimicrobial textiles in the forms of fibers and fabrics used in the production of health employees' clothing. The clothing of health employees, key factors in obtaining antimicrobial clothing, and characterizations of the antimicrobial activities of textiles will be reported. To the best of our knowledge, the literature lacks a comprehensive and detailed study on antimicrobial activities and assessments of clothing worn by healthcare workers. Using a precise literature survey; the design, production and characterization of antimicrobial fibers and fabrics used in the clothing of health employees is presented in a methodical manner.
