Özet
This study investigates the performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of a diesel engine operating on a novel dual-fuel combination consisting of pine oil–diesel blends enriched with hydrogen and alumina (Al2O3) nanoparticles. A baseline blend of 80% pine oil and 20% diesel (D20P80) was evaluated, followed by hydrogen induction at flow rates of 5, 10, and 15 lpm, and followed by the addition of alumina nanoparticles at concentrations 25 ppm and 50 ppm. Experimental results demonstrated that brake thermal efficiency increased by approximately 12.8% with 15 lpm hydrogen enrichment, and a further 0.9% improvement was achieved with 50 ppm alumina dosing, due to enhanced combustion kinetics and better flame propagation. Brake specific energy consumption was reduced by 31.4% compared with the baseline D20P80 blend. Among all tested configurations, the D20P80_H2@15lpm_Al50 blend exhibited the best overall performance, with peak in-cylinder pressure of 86.81 bar and maximum heat release rate of 69.59 J/°CA. Hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions decreased by 33.6% and 46.4%, respectively. The synergistic integration of pine oil, hydrogen, and alumina nanoparticles offers a promising pathway for cleaner and more efficient compression ignition (CI) engine operation, and the identified optimal blend may be considered suitable for practical hybrid fuel applications with appropriate NOx mitigation strategies are implemented.
