Purpose Asthma is a chronic childhood conditions impacting the quality of life of the child and the families. Mothers as primary caregiver play a crucial throughout the journey of diagnosis and treatment by experiencing significant emotional, stressful and care giving burden. This study aimed to gain an indepth understanding of the experiences of mothers caring for children with asthma. Design and methods This qualitative study uses an interpretative phenomenological analysis approach to explore mothers' experiences in depth. The sample included 14 mothers of children with asthma who were being followed up at the pediatric and pediatric allergy outpatient clinics of a university hospital, and the study was conducted between January and April 2025. The findings were reported in line with the COREQ checklist. Results Five main themes and 19 categories were identified. The main themes were: receiving an asthma diagnosis and initial reactions; identifying asthma triggers and managing asthma attacks; the treatment process and adaptation; home care and leading a controlled life outside the home; and the impact of asthma on the family and child. The themes revealed that the mothers experienced challenges and complexities from the time their children were diagnosed with asthma until they began to manage it. Conclusions The study finding suggest health care strategies that addresses family centered care which support the mothers by alleviating the caregiving burden, enhancing holistic approach and improve the quality of life for the children with asthma and their families. Implications for practice To improve adherence to childhood asthma management, future health care strategies must focus on establishing a family centered care practice, increasing child and mother self-efficacy, and improving their ability to cope with challenging processes.
