Özet

This study investigates the required gap distance between reinforced concrete (RC) adjacent buildings with/without torsional irregularity. For this purpose, 24 different adjacent building cases were designed per 2018 Turkish Building Earthquake Code-(TBEC-2018) by using 3-dimensional 3-, 5-,7- and 9-story building models. 528 different bi-directional nonlinear time history analyses were performed with spectrum compatible 11 ground motion pairs. Nonlinear behavior of structural members was considered with plastic hinges. Analysis results were compared with three different code regulations (ASCE41–17, EC8 and TBEC-2018) and three different methods (ABS, SRSS and DDC). Three different alternative approaches have been developed based on analysis that provide more representative cases according to the code provisions and the methods. Furthermore, a novel no-analysis approach was developed. The no-analysis approach provides 4–10 % closer to nonlinear analysis results compared to the DDC method for the buildings considered in the study and the benchmark models. In addition to its enhanced accuracy, the proposed approach is advantageous due to its inherent simplicity, eliminating the need for complex analysis.
