Özet
Research suggests that increased EI is associated with lower levels of loneliness. However, there has been limited understanding of the specific conditions under which EI affects loneliness. To address this gap, the current study investigated whether mindfulness moderated the relationship between EI and loneliness. The cross-sectional study included 394 participants (212 females and 182 males) aged 18–29 years (M age = 20.18, SD = 2.12) who completed measures of EI, mindfulness, and loneliness, as well as a demographic form. First, the study's findings demonstrated that higher levels of EI were associated with greater mindfulness and lower levels of loneliness. Moreover, individuals with higher levels of mindfulness tended to experience lower feelings of loneliness. Then, mindfulness moderated the relationship between EI and loneliness. More specifically, as awareness increases, the negative relationship between EI and loneliness becomes stronger. In conclusion, this study has shown that higher mindfulness can enhance the contribution of greater EI to interpersonal well-being. The practical and theoretical implications, as well as the study's limitations, were discussed.
