Özet

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to define the circumference and skinfold thickness, and by means of bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) the anthropometric measurements of a group of Turkish elderly, and to determine the association of these measurements with age and gender. Materials and Method: Circumference, skinfold thickness and BIA values of 100 elderly people living in Izmir, Narli{dotless}dere Geriatric Care Center and Residential Home were measured and analyzed. Results: Hip and thigh circumferences were higher in women whereas waist circumferences were higher in men. In addition upper arm and thigh circumferences were negatively correlated with age. Skinfold thickness values were lower in men. Basal metabolism, fat free mass (FFM, FFMI), muscle mass (MM), body fluid (TBW, ICW, ECW) of BIA measurements were higher in men in addition to height and weight values. Body weight and body fat values decreased with age. In addition FFMI was significantly lower over 80 years of age. Conclusion: This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of body composition including BIA measurements of a group of Turkish elderly.
