Yoksul Derviş is a folk poet whose real name is Şemsettin Kubat. He was born and raised in Karacalar village of Emirdağ district of Afyonkarahisar. He received his first religious education in his village and Emirdağ district. He could not go to primary school because he helped his father, who was a farmer. He went to Istanbul with the desire to read and returned to his village by improving his religious education. He started to serve as a dervish in the Kadirî sect dervish lodge in his village. In the following years, he succeeded in the exams he entered and gained the right to become an imam. Kubat, who started writing poetry at a young age, learned to read and write Latin letters during his military service. In the following years, he started to play the saz and participated in competitions and concerts. He was known as a folk poet with the concerts he gave, and became famous both at home and abroad. His poems have been published in magazines, newspapers and books. Scientific studies have been done about him, theses have been prepared and books have been written. In his poems, God, Muhammad and Ali love comes first. Along with the sect he was affiliated with, he also wrote poems on the greats of other sects. Abdulkâdir Geylâni, Yunus Emre, Mevlânâ, Hacı Bektaş Veli, Hak Halili and Bacı Sultan are some of them. In this study, the life and works of Yoksul Derviş were mentioned and the poems he wrote about “Hacı Bektaş Veli” were emphasized. In the poems written with names such as “Hünkar Hacı Bektaş Veli”, “Hacı Bektaş Veli”, “Veli Merhaba” and some of which were published here for the first time, the sincere devotion to the principles of Hacı Bektaş Veli and the love for him were expressed. Especially the six poems, whose full texts are given, are documents in terms of mentioning the life and miracles of Hacı Bektaş Veli. In the study, the poems of Yoksul Derviş, who was affiliated with the Kadirî sect, in which Hacı Bektaş Veli was also loved by poets affiliated with other sects, were explained by showing examples. Thus, it has been taken into account that Haci Bektas Veli’s teachings and love are common human values above the sects.
