Abstract

Iran has 162.2 million hectares of area, approximately 19 million hectares is agricultural land. This constitutes
12% of the country's land area. In this country, the agricultural sector faces a number of challenges. Decrease
of biodiversity, soil erosion, deforestation, overgrazing, land use change, and lake of water resources are
problems observed in the agriculture and natural resources sectors of Iran. Agriculture is both a consumer
and provider of ecosystem service. Among agricultural systems, organic agriculture can reduce and minimize
the dis-services by providing important services such as regulating and supporting services. In this paper, we
will answer this question, how can the development of organic agriculture minimize the environmental
problems of Iran by providing ecosystem services. Unfortunately, Iran placed in the first ranks from soil
erosion view. The results showed that the development of organic agriculture in agricultural lands can prevent
soil degradation. In Iran, agricultural systems are generally monoculture as conventional type and organic
agriculture can increase the services of biodiversity in these agroecosystems. The development of organic
agriculture can create new business opportunities in Iran and reduce the unemployment rate in this country.
Consumption of chemicals in conventional agriculture reduces the health and quality of agricultural products.
Development of organic agriculture can improve the quality and health of foods in Iran. Alternately, the level
of health of the community is improved.
