A high speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive is analyzed in this study. The motor is controlled by field-oriented control (FOC) and space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) using voltage source inverter (VSI) and current source inverter (CSI). In practice, high switching frequency operation of such converters can now be implemented using Gan-Fet switches. Thus, a simple converter structure is possible. A comparative study between VSI and CSI for high-speed electrical drive systems in terms of total harmonic distortion (THD) of three-phase motor currents and output torque ripple is completed. It is shown that THD of motor currents and output torque ripple can be decreased with increased switching frequency.
