Since its existence, many earthquakes on various scales have happened on the Anatolian landscape in different times and regions. The İzmir province, located in the western part of Anatolia, has also been affected by those earthquakes of different magnitudes and intensities since its establishment, due to its location in the earthquake zone. Eight earthquakes of magnitude 6 and above had happened around Izmir and its surroundings since the beginning of the 20th century. One of these, with an 6.6 magnitude destroyed in Dikili on September 22, 1939. That also caused devastating effects in settlements such as Bergama, Çandarlı, Urla, and Menemen. Following the disaster, relevant institutions and organizations, especially local government units and municipalities, took action and efforts were made to close the damage and wounds caused by the earthquake in a short time. The 1939 Dikili earthquake was covered in the local and national press of the period, and the news in the press was effective in healing the wounds of the earthquake.
