ÖZET Bu çalışma, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda üretilen saray kumaşları özelinde estetik ve fonksiyonel özellerin irdelenmesine yönelik olarak oluşturulmaktadır. Bu bağlamda ünü geniş bir coğrafyaya yayılan Osmanlı saray kumaşları; dönemin ve çağının oldukça zengin olan kültürel yapısına ve estetik anlayışına ışık tutan bir olgu olarak görülmektedir. Böylelikle göstergesel bir önem ile Osmanlı saray kumaşları, üretilen ürünlerin kullanım amaçları ve kullanılan malzemeleri bağlamında dönemin etken özelliklerini de sergileyebilmektedir. Bu çerçevede çalışma, Osmanlı sarayında kullanılan kumaş türlerinin genel türlerini ve malzeme çeşitliliğini irdeleyerek kumaşların hangi ölçütlerde estetik değerlerini arttırdığını ve desenlerindeki çeşitliliği incelemektedir. Ayrıca araştırma dahilinde söz konusu kumaşların sosyal statü ve kimlik oluşturma üzerindeki etki mekanizmaları da incelenmiştir. Teorik düzeydeki alan yazın taraması yöntemi kullanılarak oluşturulan çalışma, Osmanlı saray kumaşlarının yalnızca estetik bir kaygı ile değil, aynı zamanda Osmanlı saray ve gündelik yaşamındaki etken özellikleri de incelemektedir. Böylelikle saray kumaşları kültürel değerlerin oluşturulması, devam ettirilmesi ve aktarılması özelinde tarihsel bir bağlamda önemli bir araştırma alanı sunmaktadır. Çalışma ile birlikte söz konusu önem atfeden olgusal unsurlar üzerine Osmanlı saray kumaşlarının estetik ve fonksiyonel özellikleri değerlendirilmiş ve elde edilen veriler yorumlanarak sonuçlandırılmıştır. ABSTRACT This study is designed to examine the aesthetic and functional features of the palace fabrics produced in the Ottoman Empire. In this context, Ottoman palace fabrics, whose fame spread over a wide geography, are seen as a phenomenon that sheds light on the rich cultural structure and aesthetic understanding of the period and age. In this way, Ottoman palace fabrics with anindicative importance can also exhibit the active characteristics of the period in the context of the intended use of the products produced and the materials used. In this framework, the study examines the general types and material diversity of the fabric types used in the Ottoman palace and examines the criteria by which the fabrics increase their aesthetic values and the diversity in their patterns. The study also examines the impact mechanisms of these fabrics on social status and identity formation. The study, which was created using the theoretical literature review method, examines the Ottoman palace fabrics not only with an aesthetic concern, but also their active features in the Ottoman palace and daily life. Thus, palace fabrics offer an important research area in a historical context in terms of the creation, maintenance and transmission of cultural values. With this study, the aesthetic and functional features of Ottoman palace fabrics were evaluated on the factual elements that attribute such importance, and the data obtained were interpreted and concluded.
