Özet

Among the professionals groups most exposed to violence while performing their duties in the workplace are healthcare workers. While the Turkish Ministry of Health has released a public service announcement on YouTube regarding the prevention of violence, other media outlets have also shared videos focusing on violence in healthcare. Comments on YouTube regarding violence in healthcare were analyzed using content analysis technique. The data were examined in five categories. The numbers of positive comments towards healthcare workers (n=21), as well as the number of negative comments stating that they deserve violence or that violence is justified (n=9), were determined. It was found that viewers were against violence towards healthcare workers (n=38). The number of comments expressing negative attitudes and behaviors of healthcare workers towards patients and their families was also determined (n=30). In the comments directed towards healthcare workers, it was observed that patients and their families had negative experiences with healthcare workers (n=10). According to the results of the study, viewers expressed their opposition to violence in healthcare, called for measures to be taken against violence, acknowledged that there is a cause for violence, and expressed discomfort with the negative attitudes and behaviors of healthcare workers towards patients and their families.
